The Great Cattery Sleepout

29 October 2025

Some of our team will be undertaking an unusual challenge this weekend as they brave a chilly November night in a cattery pod for the Great Cattery Sleepout Challenge!

Four of them will be staying overnight in a cattery pod, sharing their sleeping accommodation with some of the animals currently in our care looking for homes. Among them are Indie — a beautiful and vocal Bengal cat who came into our care after a suspected car accident and needed emergency surgery — and Meowick Jagger, a handsome boy who came from a house with 32 cats. While the cats have heated pods, the team will be spending the night in sleeping bags and camping beds during their 12-hour stint, completing challenges along the way to help raise money and showcase the personalities of the animals looking for homes.

Beth Rose, Animal Welfare Manager for the Branch says: “By carrying out this unusual fundraiser we are hoping to raise awareness of the animals in our care and also raise some money for the Branch.”

We are an independent Branch of the RSPCA that works separately to other RSPCAs around the country and the National charity. Based in Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk, the local charity supports animals and pet owners in Norfolk and Suffolk, offering financial support for veterinary bills and neutering, pet food for those struggling to care for their animals and an adoption/rehoming service. In 2024 they found homes for 440 animals, helped pay for 281 veterinary bills, issued 1545 neutering vouchers and donated to food banks across the county and directly to 32 households in need.

The cost-of-living crisis has put increased pressure on us to support pet owners who are struggling to afford to care for their animals, whilst we are also working with our own reduced resources due to increases in vet bills and overheads. By donating to the fundraiser, you’ll be helping us to  support local animals and pet owners around Norfolk and Suffolk in need.

The Great Cattery Challenge Sleep Out will be taking place on 1st November and run for twelve hours overnight. You can contribute to the fundraiser here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/greatcatterysleepoutchallenge?utm_medium=CA&utm_source=CL
