Our Favourite Rescues of 2025: Dexter

16 December 2025

For our Senior Animal Welfare Officer, Charlotte, Dexter was one of her favourite rescue stories for 2025. 'I chose Dexter as he really changed in the time he was with us. It was amazing to see him go off to his new home after all the love our fosterers and team gave him.’

Dexter was given a tough start in life, living in a neglectful household and not receiving the care and support he desperately needed.

Dogs who have come to us in traumatic circumstances can often take a little longer to find their homes as the hardships they go through stay with them for longer and can manifest in behaviours that make it harder for them to find comfort in a new home. Dexter was depressed, underweight and uninterested in playing or other people so needed a lot of time and patience from the team.

Despite all he’d been through, Dexter soon became a staff favourite due to his happy nature. He loved people and would greet the team with a waggy tail and was gentle with other dogs. He was still a little unsure of being outside in a busy environment and would be frightened of loud noises and crowds however the team slowly taught him to regain confidence and learn that he was safe.

In September of this year, Dexter was adopted by a family who absolutely adore him and have been helping him to continue to grow in confidence.

‘He’s great around the house, a sleepy lazy boy who wants lots of attention and knows how to ask for it!…He’s started settling down at the couple of cafes and post hike pubs we’ve been to as well.’
