29 August 2024

As part of our Meet the Team Series, we’re introducing our brilliant staff members to our supporters so you can get to know them a bit better...

Meet Madeleine, a member of our fantastic Shared Services team. Madeleine joined the Branch in March 2022 as a Receptionist and is now Reception and Administration Coordinator for the Branch.

Read her Meet the Team interview below:

What made you first want to join the RSPCA?

I joined the Branch in March 2022 working as a receptionist. I have always had empathy and interest towards animals growing up and I remember wishing that they all had someone to understand them. Although no one can help every animal, the next best thing is helping where it is possible, and a charity raising money to support and rehabilitate animals who need it is what I wanted to be a part of. The education sessions that the Branch provides is also something that stood out to me.

What does a typical day/week in the job of a Reception and Administration Coordinator look like?

I cannot start my day without my much-needed coffee! I retrieve and send volunteer applications to department managers, create volunteer records, retrieve references and ensure volunteers’ details are up to date. I create reports for volunteer stat comparisons and I regularly research advice and guidance to keep myself refreshed and up-to-date with any changes for me to give customers when their queries come in.

What’s the best part and the most challenging part of your role?

The best part of my role is when I make a positive difference for owners by giving advice that they may not have been aware of before. My hardest part of my role is having to say no to rehoming animals when we sadly do not have the space for them.

What pets do you own?

Two rats; Scotti (was Biscotti) and Cannoli, following being a very brief fosterer. Cannoli was very timid when he first came to me but became a soppy boy who loves to sit in my jumper or under my bed covers with me. Watching them settle in and become so playful around my presence quickly made me realise I did not want to part from them and 4 weeks after being their temporary carer, they officially became mine in March 2023.

What fact about you might surprise people?

I can read Greek.

Sunrise or Sunset?

Sunset as I love the reds, oranges and pinks and because I am simply not an early bird.

What’s your favourite season?

Summer.

If you could learn any skill or master a hobby overnight what would it be?

To play the guitar.
