Meet the Team: Caroline, Income Generation Assistant
20 February 2025
As part of our Meet the Team Series, we’re introducing our brilliant staff members to our supporters so you can get to know them a bit better... Meet Caroline, our Income Generation Assistant, who's worked at our head offices for 2 and a half years. Read her Meet the Team interview below:
Why did you want to work for the RSPCA?
I’ve always had a love for animals having had a variety of pets most of my life. I’ve brought my children up loving and respecting animals and experiencing different pets within our family home. As my children grew older, I started looking for some part time work and when I heard about this position, it seemed like a perfect fit!
What’s one thing you didn’t know about the RSPCA, before working for them?
Before I had seen the job, I didn’t realise that it was a separate branch to the National RSPCA and run as a completely separate charity. I feel very proud to work for the RSPCA Norwich branch. It is good to know that all the hard work that everyone does within the branch goes towards helping local animals and owners.
What is a typical day in the life at work as an Income Generation Assistant?
A day in the life of my job role can be very varied. I usually get in for 8am to finalise the route for our volunteer driver who will visit supporters who have donations for us to collect if they are unable to get out or if they have a lot that they can’t get into their car. Our drivers visit the shops to deliver the stock collected. They also assist in rotating stock around our shops.
The rest of the day can range from general administrative duties, to sorting scrap metal, to help organise and work at an event such our golf day or Santa Paws at Christmas. I love it, the variety is the best thing about my job!
Do you own any pets?
I have 2 dogs – a Shetland Sheepdog, Rory (like little lassie dog) and a Lurcher cross with a greyhound, a Collie and a Saluki called Jura – She looks like a very skinny Old English Sheepdog with a curly tail who gets the zoomies and runs like the wind one minute and then fast asleep upside down on the sofa the next minute. I also have 2 cats a black and white one called Hamish and a very fluffy grey one – Clover, who I adopted from our Branch.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Many years ago I did a sky dive for charity. It is a weird concept to get your head around that you went up in an aeroplane but didn’t come down in it. It was an incredible experience and one I will never forget but I wouldn’t do it again. I’m not quite such the adrenaline junkie since having children!
If you could learn any skill or master a hobby overnight what would it be?
I would love to be able to speak another language, I’m currently attempting to learn French but finding it really difficult. I am in awe of people (especially children) who can just speak more that one language.
Savoury or Sweet?
Sweet!! I have a very sweet tooth!! I love Chocolate!!
