Celebrating the Past, Building our Future
15 March 2024
We are a small, local charity that rescues and rehomes animals in need, provides financial support and advice for local pet owners and supports local communities through our education and outreach programmes. We are a separate charity to the National RSPCA and are responsible for our own service provision and fundraising across Norfolk and Suffolk.
In 2023, we successfully rescued, provided veterinary to, and found homes for 502 animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries, reptiles, birds and fish. We provided them with essential veterinary care, love and a safe haven until they found their forever homes. We also helped pet owners with 1,259 neutering vouchers and issued 367 welfare vouchers to help owners fulfil their animal’s veterinary needs. We also provided information and advice to 5,435 members of the public through our friendly reception team and delivered over 400 education sessions to 8,650 individuals around Norfolk and Suffolk. We are a small but mighty team that goes above and beyond to promote excellent animal welfare in a compassionate and practical way.
2024 marks a special anniversary for us as it will be our 60th anniversary which also coincides with the 200th anniversary of our parent charity, the National RSPCA. To celebrate, we are partnering with The Forum as part of Heritage Open Days and will be running an exhibition between the 10th and 15th September on all things RSPCA including our history, impact and the stories of our work over the last 60 years.
As part of our celebrations we are looking to hear from members of the public about their own memories of the local RSPCA in their local villages and towns. Maybe you adopted one of your beloved pets from us or used to volunteer as a dog walker or fundraiser? Perhaps you remember visiting some of our previous animal centres on Drayton Road, Dove Street or East Tuddenham, or you’ve spotted one of the many water troughs that we donated to local cattle markets. So far we’ve managed to track down some in Dereham, Sheringham and Great Yarmouth but are sure there are more out there!
