From Stray to Sofa Snuggles: Bernard’s Story
27 June 2024
Bernard is a 7-year old stray cat who came into RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk’s care earlier this year after being reported to us by a member of the public. He sadly needed several operations as he had some several health problems which were causing him some discomfort, including severe conjunctivitis and entropion (a condition in which the eyelid is rolled inward against the eyeball).
Despite initially giving off grumpy boy cat vibes, we soon realised he’s actually a big softie who loves nothing more than flopping onto his side and making biscuits with his paws. After several operations to get his health in better condition, Bernard was ready to fly the nest and find his forever home.
We’re pleased to say that Bernard’s recently been adopted, and we’ve caught up with his new owner to see how he’s settling in:
“Bernard has settled in very well – he totally rules the roost! He can hear the sofa springs from anywhere in the bungalow and quickly runs over to claim a lap to cuddle up on. I’m getting hardly any jobs done because he looks so adorable, and I don’t want to disturb him when he’s napping on me.
“Despite my best effort to keep him out of the bedrooms, he sleeps on my bed and snuggles up with me every night. We left the patio door open for him yesterday, so he has been in the garden a few times. He loves basking in the sun and hiding in the shrubs.
“My friends and neighbours all love him and think it’s great that I re-homed him from the RSPCA.”
We currently have over 30 cats available for rehoming and all looking for a second chance at happiness like Bernard. If you think you can give a rescued cat their forever home, please visit our adoption page to find out more, or visit our donate page to help fund our vital animal welfare work.
