Volunteer With Us

We have lots of volunteering opportunities and full training is provided for whichever role you choose.  Whether you want to work with the animals hands on or would prefer to work with people, there is something for everyone!

Fostering  Temporarily care for our animals in your own home. Fostering is such an inportant role within the branch.  Many of the animals coming into our care have suffered from neglect and do not settle well in the cattery or kennel environment.  We need special people willing to provide a temporary loving home environment, where the animal can be rehabilitated before being rehomed.

Other animals needing foster care are expectant or nursing mothers, young animals requiring hand rearing (or that extra bit of TLC) and those that have had an operation and/or need medical care whilst they are on the mend!  Fostering must fit in with your lifestyle and plans, so detailed information on the level of care, duration (if known!) and background to each animal will be discussed in detail with a member of the Animal Care Team.  It is important that you understand the level of commitment required by each animal.

If you think you would be able to fulfil a role as a foster carer please complete the application form here.

Charity Shop AssistantsOur Charity shops bring in the much needed income that keeps us rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing animals that come into our care from the Norwich & Mid Norfolk region.

The RSPCA receives no government funding and each branch is a seperately registered charity.  Last year the volunteers who gave their time to the branch saved us over £100,000 in salary costs. You can help us continue the work the RSPCA is known for, just by lending a hand.  The role of a charity shop assistant includes helping shop management organise, display and sell stock.  We have seven charity shops in our branch area so please contact the shop you wish to volunteer for directly by visiting our Charity Shops page and clicking on the shops "Volunteer Application" button to complete your details.

applyReceptionist -  We need receptionists!  Can you spare a day or two to help us on reception? Roles are based at our branch HQ in New Costessey and we are looking for people who are good at communicating with people, over the phone, face to face or by email.

If you feel you would be able to carry out this role then please complete a volunteering form.

Home Visitors Our volunteer Home Visitors visit the homes of potential adopters to check they are appropriate.  We will give you full training to become a home visitor so you can help us ensure our animals are going to their safe, new, forever homes! For cats, we would ensure that houses are not situated on busy roads in a "high risk" area.  For dogs, access to an enclosed garden, length of time spent alone, etc are checked.  The majority of homes are absolutely perfect, but sometimes a little advice or guidance can be necessary, especially if it is a first pet.

If you feel that you would be able to carry out the role of a home visitor in your local area, and you have access to a car or transport then please complete a form and we will be in touch with you when our next training course is available.

applyDriver Do you have some spare time?  Could you help transport supplies and/or animals between local destinations such as to/from vets or further afield by agreement.  You will need to have your own vehicle and this role would be on an ad hoc basis.  Please complete an application form.

Fundraisers  Can you spare just a couple of hours to collect for us or could you help out at an event?  RSPCA Norwich & Mid-Norfolk is a seperately registered branch of the society and recieves no government funding. This means we are primarily responsible for raising money, in order to continue to run our vital services and help animals in need in the local area.
